“Failure is the surest path to success. It tests, strengthens, and refines us. Passing through it qualifies us to lead.”
- Leadership Wired – August 2008
Nobody is perfect. Failure is inevitable. It all depends on how you look at it. Like I said before, it’s all a matter of perspective. People who choose to perceive failure as a reason to give up and stop short of their goals aren’t fit to have them anyway. You must see failure as apart of your learning curve and use it to your advantage. When we fail we have several paths in front of us.
We can blame our failures on others.
We can identify with our setbacks to the extent that we view ourselves as failures.
We can ignore or deny our failure.
OR, we can embrace failure, learn from it, and use it as a springboard to get better.
It’s all up to you. I’ve had to overcome a lot of setbacks to get where I am. I’m a mother of four with a very successful real estate investing and consulting firm. I attempted college three times before deciding to get my real estate license. I had my first child before I got married and I was living with my grandmother at the time. I had no income and was a single parent. Now, I had support but certain things that should’ve been in place were not. I could have saved a lot of time if I had done some things differently. I’m not crying over spilled milk, just stating the facts.
The place where I was, I ended up there because of some wrong choices. I had always considered myself to be smart and intelligent but I have to admit, I made some stupid decisions. I could have given up and fell into the stereotypical, single parent syndrome but I wanted more for my children and was determined that I would have what I wanted.
I decided that I was not a failure although I had failed in some areas. My mind had to be conditioned to look at my situation differently and learn the lesson it was sent to teach me.
Through that time in my life I realized that I could handle tough situations and not buckle under the pressure. I learned that determination to reach a goal is motivation that comes from inside. I learned that I had to want better for myself and nobody else. I tried school because that’s what I thought I was supposed to do and what everybody expected. I wasn’t successful until I made my mind up on what I truly wanted and started making decisions to please nobody but me. That’s in no way a selfish approach. You must want it for yourself. Nobody can make the right decisions for you.
Our response dictates where we end upon the path of leadership. You qualify to lead once you’ve been through the process yourself. You can’t lead anybody to a place you’ve never been. I can tell people just because you make bad choices and your situation looks hopeless, you can make it. Just shift the way you look at your situation and see the lesson in it. What should you learn from it that will help you in the future? How does this momentary setback prepare me for my destiny? Ask yourself these questions.
Your failure should be used as a stepping stone to your desired goal. Everything happens for a reason. Make sure you know what it is and move on. Don’t get stuck in regrets because you can’t change what’s already been done. You can only make sure not to repeat the same mistake in the future.
Failure is fruitful. It brings with it life lessons that only make you stronger. Failure is apart of the process not the end. As you’re on the path to self-improvement, use failure as fuel to the fire that drives you to your desired destination. You can do it. I believe in you.
A few quotes to share:
“The majority of men meet failure because of their lack of persistence in creating new plans to take the place of those which fail.” –Napoleon Hill
“Losers visualize the penalties of failure. Winners visualize the rewards of success.” – William S. Gilbert
“A failure is a man who has blundered but is not capable of cashing in on the experience.” – Elbert Hubbard

Be A Person of Action
"An imperfect plan aggressively pursued today is better than a perfect plan put off for a future date."
- Unknown Billionaire
I heard this on a webinar on real estate. It stood out more than the information that I was on the call trying to get. I immediately began to digest this profound statement. I understood what it meant right away. You must take action. You can only plan so much. Not all is revealed in the beginning. If you’re not careful the planning will become an excuse for not doing. It’s easy to hide behind, “I’m getting my business plan together.” I’m not saying that you don’t need to have a plan; I’m saying that it doesn’t have to be perfect. Nobody is perfect. Thomas Edison tried over 900 times before he was successful at creating the incandescent light bulb that worked. When asked about failing over 900 times he said that he didn’t fail he found over 900 ways not to make a light bulb. We’re bound to make mistakes but its how you handle them that make the difference.
You must fail forward. Imagine running a race and you’re almost at the finish line and you trip. If you fall forward then you’re, in most cases, at least 5 feet closer to the finish line. I know that maybe a watered down version of what Maxwell meant but you get the picture. You must learn to make the most of your mistakes. In his book, “Failing Forward”, he says, “The difference between average people and achieving people is their perception of and response to failure.” You must understand that it’s not a matter of if you’re going to have problems but how you’re going to handle them. Mistakes should been used as stepping stones to get you to success.
Get your plan together. Then put that plan into ACTION. After you’ve done your due diligence start making things happen. See your plan as an outline and be flexible. If something doesn’t work, change it out. Don’t be afraid of change. It’s inevitable. “When you’re finished changing, you’re finished.” – Benjamin Franklin
It doesn’t matter what business you have or where you work. All truth is parallel. Get the principle and apply it to whatever your goals are. You can plan your trip all day at home but until you get in the car and begin to drive you’ll never reach your destination. Be a person of action. Get your plan together and work it.

Never Give Up
“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.”
- Thomas Edison
You must never give up. I’ve said it before and it bears repeating, you must use setbacks as stepping stones to get to where you want to be. You must be consistent and diligent to guarantee success. You become effective when you know how to handle unforeseen situations. You may not have planned for it but if you can handle problems you become a valuable asset. Nobody likes quitters. And yes, you’re a quitter if you give up when things get tough.
It is never too late to start again or change your method. Once you have made up in your mind that you are going to do something, don’t let anything stop you. I was reading a book, Think and Grow Rich, by Napoleon Hill. And in this book there is a section about a man who gave up and stopped drilling because of a few days of seemingly no progress during the “gold rush” days. He sold his equipment to a junk man who, after seeking counsel, started drilling three feet from where the other guy stopped and struck gold. The junk man took millions of dollars in ore from the mine. Napoleon says, “One of the most common causes of failure is the habit of quitting when one is overtaken by temporary defeat.” You should always use defeat to your advantage. Instead of quitting become smarter for the next time and change your approach. For the lack of a better cliché, challenges come to make your stronger. This only applies when you realize that the challenge isn’t here to take you out.
It’s all in the way you look at it. Everything is a matter of perspective. You must continue to have positive reinforcements around when you’re going after your dreams. There will be days that you feel like throwing in the towel but you can’t. You must visualize yourself on the other side of your dreams looking back. Once you’ve had a taste of what you can achieve you won’t settle for anything less. And you shouldn’t have to. Wallace D. Wattles says in, The Science of Getting Rich, that “it is perfectly right that you desire to be rich; if you are a normal man or woman you cannot help doing so.” It’s not only about having money, although that’s a major part of wanting to succeed. To really be fulfilled you have to be rich all the way around. That means in your pocket as well as in your mind and spirit. If you are not striving to be all that you can be you won’t be satisfied. As aforementioned, we are born into this world with the potential and ability to be and do anything. There is a part of you that is destined for greatness and when that potential isn’t realized or fulfilled you feel miserable.
A great deal of your everyday stress is due to the fact that you’re not living your dream. If you’re not doing what you were purposed to do then you can’t ever really be satisfied. That’s why I say it’s not only about money. There are wealthy people who are not happy. They seek solace in alcohol, men, women, or other devices trying to fill a void that money can’t buy. We all have a purpose. You must realize what it is and go after it with all that you have. Never give up on your dreams. Obstacles will arise but overcome them with the right attitude. Don’t see yourself as not having the resources to advance but become resourceful and creative. Keep going and always try again.

The Mindset Shift
“We are born into greatness but fashioned into mediocrity.”
- Unknown
This statement has helped me see everything differently. I’ve come to know it as being born into this world with the potential and ability to be and do anything. We are the highest order of creation by God. But because of the environment in which we live, we’re fashioned to be average. It’s taught, whether on purpose or because of ignorance, that being something great is far fetched and that it’s something beyond our reach. Rather than teaching us that greatness is a requirement and we have everything already inside of us to accomplish anything.
Instead of showing us that we have limitless possibilities, invisible boundaries are erected and only a few ever break free. Because we live in a society that accepts mediocrity and doesn’t challenge us to be our best, we are indoctrinated to believe that we can’t change our lives. Our parents, only doing what their parents did, tell us we can’t do things because no one’s ever done it or we’re not smart enough. I don’t know why we tend to embrace our limitations rather than explore our possibilities. This society makes us comfortable being average and constantly makes it plusher so that we won’t try to do more. It’s time to shatter the glass ceiling and reach for bigger and greater things.
We need to understand that our dreams and goals are attainable. The only one that can stop anybody is themselves. We are our own hindrance. Once we believe that it can be done, we can’t be stopped. You must have faith in whatever you want and it will manifest. Seeing isn’t believing. Believing is seeing. You must have a vision before it becomes reality. You don’t have to accept what life brings you. Take control of your destiny and live your dream.

The Intro
I'm introducing myself to the world. I'm a young lady interested in helping young people realize and ultimately maximize their potential for greatness. Despite what they've been told or taught they can do anything. I'm for more than just words they've heard before. I'm about simple, practical actions that if implemented your future will be what you want it to be not what you've settled for.
We all have dreams and aspirations that can become reality. Once you begin to believe that all things are possible you can start living your dream.
Get a vision of where you want to be and see yourself looking back from that reality.
Until next time....
